How does Fourex work?

Fourex is money exchange made easy. Mixed coins and notes are simply placed into the kiosk, and the machine uses its high speed technology to identify, evaluate and exchange each and every coin or note. The kiosks accept coins and notes from over 150 currencies, as well as money from the old European currencies. (Deutschmarks, Pesetas, Schillings, etc). Local UK coins can also be converted into cash. You can choose to exchange your money directly into either pounds, euros or dollars.

Do you charge commissions or fees?

No, there are no hidden commissions or fees charged. Most other exchange companies charge hidden fees and commissions for low value transactions.

What is the minimum transaction allowed?

You can exchange any amount between £1 and £650

How competitive are your exchange rates?

We pride ourselves on having some of the most competitive exchange rates in the market. Our exchange rates are competitive because we do not have large branches with big overheads and staff costs and so are able to pass on these savings to you. Please use our currency calculator to calculate how much your money is worth.

Can I convert foreign currency directly into euros or dollars?

Yes, you can choose to be paid out in either Pounds, Euros or Dollars. Your foreign currency can be exchanged directly into either Euros or Dollars without first being converted to Pounds. This saves you being charged twice if you would like to use your leftover money as holiday money.

Can I use the kiosks to buy Euros and Dollars?

Yes, you can use Pounds, or any currency to purchase Euros or Dollars.

How do I know how much I will receive?

You can use the "exchange rate calculator" on the website (as a guide), or at one of the kiosks to determine how much your money is worth.

Can I deposit my leftover UK coins for Euros or Dollars?

Yes, you can deposit a single banknote, from any of the currencies we exchange. There is no minimum value required. The accumulated value of multiple currencies is calculated and paid to you in cash.

How much do you charge to exchange UK coins into cash?

Our exchange rate for UK money 9% to exchange your pennies into Pounds. If you wish to convert your pennies into Euros or Dollars, then the relevant exchange rates will apply.

Why do you exchange old pre-euro money?

Fourex has relationships with the Central Banks of these countries, whereby we are still able to exchange this defunct money.

Can I stop the transaction after I have deposited my money?

No, once you have started depositing your money, you cannot reverse the transaction.

How do I find out which currencies you accept?

Do you accept previous issue bank notes?

Yes, we accept many "old" banknotes from certain currencies. Simply feed the note into the machine, but if it is rejected, then it is not a note we can accept at this time. We are constantly upgrading our database, so please keep the note and try it again on your next visit to a Fourex kiosk.

Why are the exchange rates for coins and notes different?

The sorting and shipping costs for coins is far higher compared to paper money. Bank notes can be traded in the local forex market, but coins need to be stored for long periods before it becomes viable to ship them to their country of origin, and it is for these reasons that our exchange rates are different.

Do Fourex machines pay in cash?

Yes. Once your notes and coins have been counted, you will receive the amount in your chosen currency either in Pounds, Euros or Dollars. Fourex does not use vouchers.

Do I need to sort my notes and coins before using Fourex?

No. Fourex machines accept unsorted notes and coins from over 150 countries, as well as pre-Euro, out-dated or out-of-circulation currency. In the unlikely event that one of your coins is not accepted, the coin is rejected and returned. We are constantly adding to the database, so keep the rejected coin until next time as it is likely we will accept it then.

How you are able to offer me a better exchange rate compared to other Bureau de Changes?

Fourex has revolutionized the foreign exchange business by mixing technology with common sense. We don’t have to pay for staff to serve you, and the footprint of the kiosks is small which reduces our rental costs. These savings are passed directly onto our customers.

How do I find my nearest Fourex machine?

Fourex "find a kiosk" locations are listed in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. You can search by city or postcode in the UK. Alternatively, all sites are listed on the Fourex website (www.fourex.co.uk).

What if I have a large amount of notes or coins?

The total value per transaction is capped at £650.

Can I donate my money to charity?
Expand

Yes. After you have deposited your money, you will be asked if you would like to donate some, or all of your money to one of our charity partners. You can either donate 5%, 10%, 25% or 75% or donate 100% of your money. You can also share your deposit between all six charities. Your money goes directly to the charity you have chosen.

Is my donation 100% tax deductible? Can I use the receipt for my taxes?

Yes, your donation is 100% deductible on your tax return and you can use your receipt in your tax documentation.

I accidentally donated some/all of my payout to a charity. Can I get my money back?

No, once you have agreed to donate, then the transaction is complete.

Can I donate to a charity which is not listed on the Fourex machine?
Expand

No, you can only donate directly to the charities which appear on the Fourex screen.

Is there a fee to process coins donated to charities?
Expand

The total value of your transaction as displayed is donated to the charity of your choice.

What should I do if the machine is out-of-service or there’s an issue with the machine?
